Please join us for a special world premiere screening of a new documentary, presented by Centro Español – “The Weight of Remembering” – a film by James D. Fernández and Luis Argeo that explores the history of Spanish immigrants in Tampa.

The Centro Español of Tampa and Professor James Fernandez of New York University have partnered to study, preserve, and promote the story of Spanish immigration to the United States by gathering oral histories, information, and photographic and written documents.  Dr. Fernández, together with Luis Argeo, have been very active the last decade chronicling the story of the Spanish diaspora to the US, and the Centro Español of Tampa, founded by immigrants from Spain in 1891, has been a steadfast supporter of Fernandez and Argeo’s efforts. “The Weight of Remembering” is their second documentary about Tampa; the first, “A Legacy of Smoke”, debuted at Tampa Theatre in 2014.

DVDs featuring the new film, as well as “A Legacy of Smoke” plus extras will be available for purchase at the screening.
